President Report September 2021

I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable summer.

Since we last met in June it’s been a busy time, Daryn was working hard to get us caught up with our per capita and struggling with one our units to make their payment on time, he also spent time searching for a space to rent to hold our monthly meetings.

I’ve been busy with bargaining prep with Ford
protection and my own unit Dana.
Ford protection officers ratified their agreement at 80% with some significant gains, Dennis Spehar and his committee Chris Flor and Matt Close did an outstanding job.

Dana turned down their agreement by 85% making it clear to the company that they feel that they are not respected. I want to thank Denisa Lopes and Giaus Christian for all their support and hard work. We will have to wait until February to go back to the table. Our contract expires February 15 2022, the company requested an early bargaining due to difficulty hiring people.

Dave Mclaren and I have been working with a new National Rep Jake Moore on a mediation for one member and a arbitration for a termination that is still ongoing.

Oakville transit still has struggles with a lack of trust in management and also loss of faith in our union. Tim Mitchell joined us as the National Rep for both transit and Dana, he brings over 30 years of experience, first with CAW into Unifor, coming out of leer seating in Kitchener as leadership in the plant, onto president of his local and currently a National Rep and area director in Kitchener, with a strong background in auto parts and transit.

In solidarity
